Dr. Pranay Shrestha joined PoreLab at the University of Oslo on September 1st, 2026, as a postdoctoral researcher for 2 years. His position is financed by the HORIZON-Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) program 2024 for Postdoctoral Fellowships. His project is titled: EnergyLeap – Leveraging wettability in computational design tools for porous materials
Pranay earned his PhD from the University of Toronto, Canada, in 2020 where he conducted experimental and theoretical research on transport phenomena in electrochemical energy conversion and storage devices for the development of novel materials.
In July 2023, he joined the University of Oxford, UK, as a postdoctoral researcher in clean energy.
Following his InterPore–PoreLab Award in 2023 (see PoreLab Annual Report 2023, p. 70), Pranay visited PoreLab at the University of Oslo in spring 2023. This collaboration led to the development of the EnergyLeap project proposal.
Pranay introduces his project at PoreLab as follow: “I work at the intersection of engineering, physics, and materials science to characterize and design energy materials at microscopic scales. I’ve worked on solid-state batteries (at Oxford) and on fuel cells and electrolyzers (at Toronto). On the characterization side, I develop and apply 3D operando imaging with X-rays and neutrons at the micro- and nano-scale.
At PoreLab/Njord, I will investigate how mixed wettability affects flow patterns in porous materials, and leverage this to design energy materials at the pore scale. I plan to use model 2D systems with controlled wettability patterns to study the fundamental relationships between mixed-wetting parameters and the resulting flow.
More broadly, I’m interested in complex systems, pore-scale material design, large-scale facility characterization (tomography, diffraction), large dataset processing, and computational modelling.
I look forward to meeting and working with the team at PoreLab/Njord!”
