Professor Knut Jørgen Måløy, PI at PoreLab, has been elected as a new member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, one of Norway’s most prestigious scholarly institutions. His election was formally approved at the Academy’s members’ meeting on 9 March 2026, as part of the annual admission of new members to the Natural Sciences Division.

Founded in 1857, the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters is an independent and nationwide body that promotes the advancement of science and scholarship across all academic disciplines. It serves as a national forum for scientific exchange and represents Norwegian research internationally. Members are elected for life and are organized into two main divisions: the Natural Sciences, and the Humanities and Social Sciences.
The Academy maintains a selective election process. Seats become available only when a member reaches the age of 70 or passes away, and new members are elected by existing members based solely on scientific excellence. Election is widely regarded as one of the highest academic honours in Norway.
With his long-standing contributions to condensed matter and complex physics, Professor Måløy joins a distinguished community of leading researchers. Membership offers opportunities to participate in national and international scientific dialogue, contribute to Academy committees and events, and take part in shaping the scientific agenda through meetings, research initiatives, and advisory activities.
Congratulations!
