Open Postdoctoral position in Experimental Porous Media Physics at UiO

There is an open position as Postdoctoral Research Fellow available at PoreLab at the Njord Centre.

Important information:

  • No one can be appointed for more than one Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Oslo.
  • Applications must be sent via jobbnorge.no (here)
  • Deadline to submit an application is 15 May 2022
  • Starting date no later than 01.10.2022.

Applicants are invited for a 2-year position as a Postdoctoral Follow in Porous Media Physics at PoreLab  at the Njord Centre with a starting date before the 1st October 2022. The position is funded by the Research Council of Norwegian through the project M4: Mixing in Multiphase Flow through Microporous Media. The project is hosted at Njord and also involves participants from the University of Rennes and SINTEF Digital.

The appointment is a 2-year full-time position focused on the development and application of experimental techniques and image analysis methods to study the problem of solute mixing in multiphase flows through porous media. The main goal of the position is, for the first time, to enable direct imaging of chaotic mixing in multiphase 3D porous media flows. The applicant will be responsible for developing table-top experimental setups to study the mixing dynamics of a solute in single and immiscible two-phase flows in porous media. A 2D setup is currently being developed by researchers at PoreLab and the applicant will further develop this system as well as extend it to 3D.

This development will leverage the expertise and experimental facilities at the partner groups at PoreLab, UiO, and at the University of Rennes. The candidate is expected to undertake extended stays at the latter group to develop the 3D experimental techniques.

In addition to the experimental work, the candidate is expected to develop image analysis routines to process the experimental data and to actively contribute to theoretical model development. The applicant is also expected to engage in outreach activity connected to the research activity at PoreLab and Njord.
